About us

The core of the Skala Babin group is made up of Shime Babin, a project designer and Vesna Skala, an economist.

We conduct architectural design services through our firm Studio Babin.. This business firm has a long tradition spanning over 20 years. Sometimes we overtake a construction works, but only for the clients that trust to our design. The experience of beauty ultimately comes down to the search for happiness, and this is always an individual experience because the building alone cannot make us happy, but creating your own home and the comfort of living in it, certainly can.

Marketing, public relations, administration, so the entire “infrastructure” is in the hands of Vesna Skala.

The Skala Babin group was established in year 2006, primarily in order to construct and complete the project San Antonio – Mediterranean villas in Vodnjan – Istria. At the time they were created (in 2010), these villas attracted the attention of the profession, the media and the public. They were included among the 100 most beautiful houses in Croatia as chosen by Haus Bau magazine. Croatian Society of Architects publicly praised the project on Croatian national television as a good example of modern construction that successfully incorporated traditional construction elements into its structure. This refers to parts of the facade in dry stone masonry, which has been the basic building material of the coastal area since ancient times. Many of our other successful projects were later created on this trail. After that we have realized a lot of other projects.

Services which we offer include:
– architectural design and architectural supervision
– management of the investment from the project to the completion of the construction, together with the design and interior decoration.

 Architecture and design utilising Mediterranean sensibility is what defines us most initmately;  We boast experience that spans many years along with reputable knowledge in this area. Energy efficiency is a special interest of ours and we foster continual improvement in this area. We are particularly interested in sustainable and energy-efficient buildings, green building, in other words, humane construction that affirms communication in the face of increasingly widespread alienation. We are continuously improving ourselves in this area.

This apparently controversial statement of Picasso’s refers to a very profound truth, which is reflected in a tendency for a continually renewed and fresh look at life, creation and the world….This thesis opens up opportunity to change the consciousness, and with it, the reality.

We conceived and realised the projects in which we believed.  As professional people from this industry, we are sensitive to instances of devastation in nature and the environment, as well as in construction and town planning. We wanted to take a good step forward which would initiate a new way of thinking and stimulate positive changes.

Guided by this notion, we came to the idea of making designer urban villas – San Antonio, a project which is significant to us, because we carried out the designing as well as the construction ourselves. By way of example, we demonstrated how conceptualising and building can be done and how our environment, which it is our duty to enrich with meaningful, quality buildings that reflect the refined links between tradition and the contemporary, can be preserved.

The way we work

Keeping abreast with ethics, aesthetics, culture, tradition, philosophy, ecology, construction, architecture and design, we made accomplishments which captured the attention of the public, the professional circle and the media. We can say that we succeded in all this in the context of our own microcosmos of sorts.

In the conditions of the current moment dominated by turmoil, conflicts, riots, which generates general insecurity and depression, we started developing new projects: green and energy-efficient construction at an affordable price through the Housing Cooperative model. The goal is to create a community of tenants who want to get high quality construction, good design, and additional amenities such as green gardens on the roof, all for the cost price. The goal here is not the highest possible profit, but lower costs and the greatest possible benefit for the associated members of the cooperative, as well as the wider community.

Energetic efficiency, architecture and design, ecology and ethics, unified in a joint step forward into a new world which is already upon us. Certain questions need to be asked in this context: How to keep up with changes which occur at increasing speed?

Are we youthful enough to have the desired strength to change our mode of thinking, engage in paradigm shifts and discover new solutions in the midst of a problem at hand! Widen our horizons and take a step forward! This is exactly what we strive to accomplish! We desire the same kind of people in our midst, such partners in business – in short, we continually search for our pack!
